At Sanya Serenity Marina, we are always striving to improve our services to offer our guests the most pleasant experience possible.

With favorable winds and good year round weather, Sanya Serenity Marina is the ideal Asian stopover for global ocean races. A planned visit from the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race prompted the construction of a world-class sheltered marina on the Luhuitou Peninsula. The home port for Sanya's entry in the Volvo Ocean Race, Sanya Serenity Marina promotes tourism to Hainan Island, and to Sanya specifically, by developing the range of cultural facilities available to both residents and visitors.

An idea takes shape

Mr. Knut FROSTAD, CEO of the Volvo Ocean Race, visited Sanya from the 3rd to the 6th of November 2009 to discuss with the Chinese General Administration of Sport the possibility of constructing a race marina in Sanya. After a gauntlet of inspections and comparisons, the organizers of the event, having recognized Sanya Luhuitou Bay as the natural choice to be the Asian port for the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race, made the decision to construct the Sanya Serenity Marina.

On January 28th 2010, the Sanya People's Government, Sanya Luhuitou Development Agency, Hainan Provincial Government, and Volvo Event Management all signed a joint "Sponsor Port" contract. Following the contract signing, a team of international specialists was called upon to design and build the race marina including over 300 berths. From conceptual ideal to completion took a total investment of two years' time and about CNY 500 million (USD 80 million).
