The 4th Round Hainan Regatta opened in Serenity Sanya Marina with registration and practice on March 20. Many of the boats are chartered, so crews took the time to familiarize themselves with the equipment ahead of the Sanya In-port Races. Several people were spotted in the water, trying to polish the hulls of their yachts. Thats important, if you want to go faster! A lot of time was spent meeting old friends from all over the world.

Day 2, March 21, was dedicated to Pro-Am sailing, with yacht crews showing VIPs and media persons what racing is all about. Two races were held in good sailing conditions and everyone enjoyed themselves, judging by the comments overheard at the Opening Ceremony and Dinner held in the evening. 550 people enjoyed a memorable dinner on the hardstand of Sanya Serenity Marina, the food, facilities and entertainment were rated as excellent. Louis Godio, Executive Chef of Sanya Serenity Marina organized the event with expertise

Day 3, March 22, was a bit more serious, with the races counting towards the final results. The various types of boat (basically big, medium and small) are grouped into different divisions, so we dont see apples trying to beat pears. The wind was good for the three races held and enthusiasm was high; in some cases, higher than knowledge of the racing rules! The judges noted that hitting marks of the course and other boats is not fair play. They plan to get tougher, mainly in the interests of safety.

Day 4, March 23, was like Day 3, but with a bit less wind. The judges were vigilant and errors were corrected. The racing was fair and everyone had fun. Later, after dinner, there were prizes for (nearly) everyone! Thoughts then turned to the long passage races and many teams held meetings to make their plans.

On Day 5, March 24, one fleet will set off to sail around Hainan Island (returning after one week, with a stopover in Haikou), while another fleet will race to Dongluo Island and back, which will keep them busy all day. This second fleet is scheduled to sail to Wanning on March 26 for some in-port activities there, before returning to Sanya on March 29.

The Champions of the various divisions will be announced on Saturday, March 30, when all the available points have been collected. Fair winds and good luck to all!
